Lupus Society of Alberta

For the LSA, the grace, flexibility, and complexity of the willow tree have come to represent the qualities people develop as they meet the challenges posed by lupus.

Just thinking about the beauty and endurance of the willow - bending but not breaking in the face of strong winds - can be an empowering image for those whose lives are affected by lupus.

The Faces of Lupus

The faces of lupus ....

Lupus is called 'the disease with a thousand faces' because the symptoms and course of the disease differ so much from person to person. Lupus affects people of all ages, genders and ethnic backgrounds.

Any face could be the face of lupus.

LSA is a member of Imagine Canada and participates in Imagine Canada's Ethical Code Program

Imagine Canada is a group that supports charities and nonprofits so they can, in turn, support the Canadians and communities they serve. Imagine Canada's Ethical Code Program sets standards for charitable organizations to manage and report their financial affairs responsibly. This is important because, as a donor, you are entitled to transparency and the greatest impact possible for your donation.

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization

- their efforts are much appreciated and essential to our success.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Ongoing:

Do you live in Calgary? Would you like to do some administrative work at the LSA office on an 'as needed' basis? Activities include such things as: helping us put our information packages together, mailing out the Lupus Courier, or preparing information for our educational activities.

You may wish to become involved with the Education Committee if this is your major interest. Healthcare professionals with an interest in lupus would make ideal committee members as they can learn from those members who have lupus and offer practical help in determining how best to offer education to fellow professionals.

Project:

Would you like to help us out with the next LSA 'Education Days' being planned for Calgary and Edmonton?

Would you like to be involved in organizing and carrying out a 'Step Out for Lupus - run/walk' in your community in 2012?

Would you like to have one or two days of fun and excitement by helping us out with the next LSA Casino Days (Summer 2012)?

Other:

If you have other unique ideas on how you would like to volunteer with the LSA, don't hesitate to contact us by phone or email.

REASONS TO VOLUNTEER WITH LSA

NOTE: While we count on our volunteers tremendously, one of the benefits of volunteering with the LSA is that we understand what it is like to have lupus - unpredictability is part of the challenge. We do ask, however, that if you are unable to keep a committment you have made, you give us as much notice as possible.
